Fallout 3 Soundtrack Sampler

I pre-ordered Fallout 3 today, and was thus the happy recipient of a little disc called “Featured Selections from the Fallout 3 Soundtrack.”

The physical disc itself is printed like a record, a nice touch in keeping with the distinctive retro-futuristic aesthetic of the Fallout franchise. The CD sleeve, too, looks like a careworn record sheath.

The tracks are as follows:

1. “I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire” - The Ink Spots. A nostalgic crooner that’s been featured on the Fallout 3 trailers.

2. “Way Back Home” - Bob Crosby. A song from simpler, more carefree times. Cheerful, in that Leave-It-To-Beaver kind of way. I can’t wait to stroll through the blasted heath of a landscape with this playing.

3. “Butcher Pete (Part I)” - Roy Brown. This is a song to slay mutants to. Trust me on this. The refrain is something like ‘hackin’ and whackin’ and smackin!’, and there’s a lot of zany saxophone and piano to get your foot tapping while you fend off the radioactive hordes.

4. “Main Title” - Inon Zur. A dark, forboding orchestral piece wonderfully at odds with the cheerfulness of Crosby and Brown. It has all the fullness of a cinematic score right off the bat, vaguely reminiscent of Danny Elfman’s work.

5. “Megaton” - Inon Zur. The theme song for the town of Megaton. The theme paints the mental image of a desolate frontier town; dry gulleys, trees, and shifty townsfolk closing the blinds as you walk by.

Although the sample is small, it’s enough to whet the music afficionado’s appetite. If you can’t wait for the game release (or you just happen to be heading to pre-order yours now), don’t forget to get your hands on this tidbit.

Music in the game is very decent, I like how the game itself, thanks to developers for the excellent atmosphere in the game!

My opinion, it’s a ok game that has some severe technical problems a very lame plot but that’s OK.
