The Gaming Dark Age?

Bleach: Soul Carnival and Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida or2 are seeing simultaneous brick-and-mordar/digital download releases in October for the PSP in Japan, Sony recently said to someone.

Many bloggers are celebrating, all the while heedful of the the Dark Lord, and his many keeps in this land. Will pompous Gamestop only encourage digital distribution by aggressively pursuing this pre-order, pre-played silliness? I’m worried that there are no real champions, here. Look at photography.

I’ve worked in a photo lab for around six years now, and we’ve gone down to printing around 3000 prints a day on technology designed and purchased to print 2000 prints per hour. Nobody does this any more, and the industry is worried.

Not only do people not get photos developed any more, they hide em’ away on corruptible technology - even backing them up completely to the cloud! We’re gunna be hit by a photography dark age in the coming decades, and the same thing could happen to video games.

Will I be able to find and play Braid in 20 years? Where’s the guarantee that these intangible properties will hold up platform to platform? Man I ask a lot of questions.
