EA Repeals Bad Company Weapon Tax

It just goes to show that if you bitch about something long enough, everything’ll work out fine. Thank you, internet, for objecting to EA’s ridiculous scheme to sell us additional weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company.

DICE senior producer Karl-Magnus Troedsson stated in a recent interview that:

All guns are available to everyone. However, we want to give some exclusivity to those who buy the Gold Edition. They will get the five Gold Edition weapons from Day One when they put the disc in. People that don’t buy the Gold Edition can get the five additional weapons by getting to the final rank in the game.

Damn right! Sure, it’ll still be a little unbalanced for a short time, but now the people who want the weapons don’t have to shell out precious currency! There are an additional five weapons available to everyone, no matter which version they purchase, and they will be attainable through the participation in marketing promotions EA will put forth, to the tune of surveys, newsletters, and such. Troedsson claims that this was the plan all along, and that the announcement of the weapons being available on Xbox Live for a fee was simply a “miscommunication.”

Convenient.

It’s nice to see that you’re listening, (at least a little) EA.
